How Babu Owino Reacted After Winnie Odinga Being Endorsed For Deputy Party Leader Position Ahead of NDC Meeting

Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, has called on EALA member of parliament, Winnie Odinga, to join the Linda Mwananchi movement.

According to reports, she was endorsed by ODM Nairobi County delegates for the deputy party leader position on March 17, ahead of the National Delegates Conference (NDC).

Speaking about this, MP Babu gave a story about a turtle and a pond. "There is a person who went to a pond where a turtle was the king. 

He asked the turtle if he believes that his kingdom is the biggest and offered to give the man his kingdom if he is shown a bigger kingdom." Babu Owino said .

“We as 17 constituencies in Nairobi County have proposed to have our EALA MP Winnie Odinga to represent us as deputy party leader,” Aladwa stated. 

The group is pushing for the expansion of deputy leader positions (currently three) to four to accommodate her.

Winnie Odinga, who had previously been closely associated with the Linda Mwananchi group, accepted the endorsement and declared, “ODM is my home.” 

She has since signalled readiness to work with Dr Oburu Oginga’s camp (widely referred to as Linda Ground), where Oburu serves as party leader following his brother Raila’s passing in October 2025.

Babu Owino’s Blunt Metaphor: “Bigger Than the Pond”

Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, March 18, alongside Siaya Governor James Orengo and other Linda Mwananchi figures, Babu Owino did not hide his disappointment. He used a powerful aquatic metaphor to warn Winnie that she was making the wrong choice by aligning with the rival faction.

“Winnie is like a turtle that is bigger than the pond that she is going to. She should join the ocean, and this is where it is at, Linda Mwananchi,” Babu Owino declared.

He went further, describing the Linda Ground faction as a “sinking ship” and insisting that Winnie would achieve far more political freedom and influence within Linda Mwananchi.

“You are bigger than the pond you are heading to!” he reiterated in viral clips circulating on social media and news platforms.
