Latest Opinion Poll Shows the Leading Candidate to be Selected as United Opposition Flag Bearer.

A new opinion survey conducted by TIFA Research has sparked fresh political discussions as Kenya gradually moves toward the 2027 General Election.

The poll paints a picture of a highly competitive presidential race, with no single candidate commanding dominant nationwide support.

The findings have also reignited debate on the need for opposition leaders to work together if they hope to mount a serious challenge in the next election.

According to the survey, President William Ruto currently leads individual presidential preferences with 24 percent support.

Despite holding the top position, the poll suggests that his backing may not be sufficient to secure an outright victory should opposition figures unite behind a common candidate.

Among opposition leaders, Kalonzo Musyoka recorded the highest support at 19 percent. He was followed by Fred Matiang’i at 14 percent, Edwin Sifuna at 10 percent, and Rigathi Gachagua at 9 percent. The results indicate that opposition support remains divided among several influential figures.

The study further explored different coalition possibilities within the opposition. A potential alliance between Kalonzo Musyoka and Fred Matiang’i emerged as the most popular combination, attracting 31 percent support from respondents.

Other coalition arrangements involving Kalonzo and Edwin Sifuna also received considerable approval.

Researchers observed that a united opposition ticket could attract significantly more support than any individual candidate currently enjoys.

As a result, the poll has strengthened calls for opposition leaders to engage in coalition talks well before the campaign season intensifies.

Political observers say the findings underline the critical role alliances are likely to play in determining the outcome of the 2027 presidential contest. They argue that while a fragmented opposition may struggle against the incumbent, a united coalition could pose a formidable challenge.

The survey also highlights Edwin Sifuna’s growing prominence within opposition politics. His rising popularity has elevated his status as a key player in future coalition negotiations and electoral strategies.

Although the next General Election is still some time away, the poll provides an early glimpse into the shifting political dynamics across the country.

As political parties continue forming alliances and refining their plans, competition is expected to remain fierce, with coalition-building likely to be a major factor in the race for State House.
