Kenyans have opposed an alleged agreement between Kenya and the United States to establish Ebola isolation facilities in the country.
According to reports being discussed in Kenya, the United States plans to establish a 50-bed facility in Nanyuki, Laikipia, which would be used to isolate U.S. citizens considered at risk of Ebola infection in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
However, this has attracted opposition to establish an Ebola isolation center in Laikipia County, after local leaders, doctors, and civil society organizations united against its implementation.
Laikipia leaders, including Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri, Laikipia West MP Wachira Karani, Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere, and Woman Representative Jane Kagiri, jointly stated that they oppose the project, emphasizing that it does not adequately consider the interests of local residents or national security.
