Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday received a detailed report from participants of a high-level Process Design Meeting aimed at supporting the Armed Groups Working Stream of the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Peace Process.
The meeting, which concluded on June 24, 2026, was held at Ichaweri in Gatundu, Kiambu County, and brought together experts and stakeholders involved in efforts to restore peace and stability in the conflict-affected eastern region of the DRC.
During the deliberations, participants conducted extensive actor mapping and analysis, identifying key stakeholders and dynamics shaping the security situation in the region.
The report outlines potential pathways for dialogue and engagement with armed groups operating in eastern DRC, with a focus on fostering sustainable peace and strengthening regional stability.
Upon receiving the report, Kenyatta commended the participants for their commitment and constructive contributions.
He thanked the team for their fruitful discussions and emphasized the critical role of collective expertise in advancing the peace agenda.
Kenyatta underscored the need for continued collaboration among regional and international actors to address the challenges facing the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu, which have experienced years of insecurity and armed conflict.
The Process Design Meeting forms part of ongoing efforts under the Eastern DRC Peace Process, where Kenyatta serves as facilitator in initiatives aimed at promoting dialogue, reconciliation, and long-term peace in the region.
