Risper Faith, a 20-year-old mother from Nanyuki, left home one Sunday afternoon after asking her father for KSh 200 to travel to town. She assured him she would return the money.
Leaving behind her eight-month-old baby, she walked out of her parents' home, never knowing it would be the last time her family would see her alive.
According to her family, Risper had separated from the father of her child, 21-year-old Elvis Ndegwa, after their relationship allegedly became abusive.
They claim she endured repeated assaults during their time together and had even reported him to the police. However, she later withdrew the case, hoping the relationship could improve.
On the day she disappeared, relatives say Elvis persuaded her to meet him so they could discuss reconciling. Their relationship had started while they were still in high school.
The two reportedly checked into Lodging 1959 in Nanyuki Town. Reports indicate they were allowed into a room without paying in advance, after Elvis promised to settle the bill later. The facility reportedly had no CCTV cameras, and no identification details were recorded.
Several hours later, when staff noticed there was no activity from the room, the manager went to check. He allegedly found Risper dead inside. Elvis was nowhere to be found.
The following morning, Risper's father went to report her missing. Before reaching the police station, he stopped at the morgue, where he made the heartbreaking discovery that his daughter had been taken there the previous night.
Family members later showed the lodging receptionist a photograph of Elvis, who reportedly identified him as the man who had arrived with Risper.
Police later arrested the suspect, but he allegedly escaped from custody. According to the latest available information, he remains at large as detectives continue searching for him.
A post-mortem examination concluded that Risper died from severe head injuries and strangulation.
She left behind an eight-month-old child and a grieving family still seeking justice. Her death has become another painful reminder of the devastating impact of domestic violence and the urgent need for swift justice and stronger protection for victims.
