After realising the mistake, the sender contacted the recipient and asked him to send the money back.
According to police, the sender made several calls and sent messages asking for the money to be returned. However, the recipient allegedly ignored the requests and later spent the money.
With no success in recovering the funds, the sender reported the matter to police in Mombasa.
Detectives from the Cybercrime and Forensics Unit then began investigating the case. They checked the mobile money records to find out who had received the money and what had happened to it.
Their investigations reportedly led them to the suspect, who was later traced to his home in Mombasa and arrested.
Police said the man was taken into custody and questioned as investigations continued. He is expected to be taken to the Mombasa Law Courts to face charges over allegedly keeping and using money that had been sent to him by mistake.
