Speaking on Thursday, September 11, 2026, during an empowerment forum in Western Kenya, Kibet said that Senator Sifuna lacks the political experience and track record required to lead the country as President.
Kibet argued that Sifuna, who has been Nairobi Senator since 2022 and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General, has only held one elective position and has not demonstrated the national leadership, development record, and political maturity needed for the highest office in the land.

"Sifuna is my friend, but let me tell him the truth. He lacks political experience to be President of Kenya. You cannot just wake up and say you want to be President when you have only been Senator for one term. Leadership needs experience," Kibet said.
Kibet was responding to recent reports that Sifuna is planning to vie for the presidency in 2027, after falling out with sections of ODM leadership over the party's cooperation with President Ruto's administration.
Sifuna has positioned himself as a critic of the broad-based government and has hinted that he could offer an alternative leadership.
The President's PA maintained that President Ruto remains the most experienced and development-oriented leader and will easily win a second term in 2027.

At the same time, Kibet endorsed National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula for the Presidency in 2032, saying the Kenya Kwanza brigade will back him after President Ruto completes his second term.
He said Western Kenya has agreed to support Ruto fully in 2027, and in return, Ruto's camp will support Wetang'ula in 2032 to succeed him.
"We will support President Ruto in 2027. And when he finishes his second term, we will front Moses Wetang'ula for President in 2032. That is our plan," Kibet declared.
