MP Gakuya Claims Babu Owino and Edwin Sifuna Are Backed by DCP to Weaken ODM

MP James Gakuya has made a fresh political claim, alleging that Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna are being sponsored by the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) to undermine the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Gakuya claims that the alleged strategy is aimed at creating divisions within ODM and weakening the party ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to the lawmaker, the political contest is not merely an internal disagreement within ODM but could be part of a wider effort by rival political forces to influence the party's support base.

The MP further alleged that Babu Owino and Sifuna's political activities and public criticism of ODM leadership could ultimately benefit DCP by fragmenting the opposition vote and creating opportunities for the party to capture more parliamentary and other elective seats.

The claims come amid heightened political activity within ODM, with competing factions and prominent figures taking divergent positions on the party's leadership, alliances and political direction ahead of 2027.

Babu Owino has emerged as one of the most vocal political figures in the ongoing political realignment, while Sifuna has also been at the centre of debates surrounding ODM and the wider opposition movement.
