President Ruto Alleges How Gideon Moi's Standard Group House Has Been Sponsoring the Opposition

President William Ruto has hit out at the opposition and alleged that The Standard newspaper associated with the Moi family has been helping them get publicity.

Speaking on Friday , September 11, 2026 during a public rally, the Head of State said he had heard opposition leaders making noise and claiming that he is behaving like the late former President Daniel arap Moi.

President Ruto dismissed the remarks, saying the opposition should leave his name out of their politics and show respect to the former President.

"I heard from Linda Sponsor that they were making noise, claiming William Ruto is Moi. I want to tell you: leave William Ruto alone. You are no match for me, because you talked about Moi. Where would you be without Moi? Show Moi some respect. Show Moi some gratitude. It is Moi who helps get your trivial matters into the headlines," Ruto said.

According to the President, without the Moi-owned media house, the opposition's statements would not even make headlines.

He alleged that The Standard Group newspaper, which is linked to the Moi family, has been giving the opposition coverage and helping their trivial matters get attention.

Ruto said the opposition has nothing meaningful to offer Kenyans and is relying on media publicity to stay relevant.

He further stated that Moi deserves respect for his contribution to the country and should not be dragged into political attacks.

The President's remarks come amid heightened political activity in the country, with the opposition criticizing his administration over the cost of living and governance.

Leaders allied to the opposition are yet to respond to the President's claims.
