President William Ruto has launched a fierce verbal attack against Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, signalling an escalation in the political rivalry between the two leaders.

Speaking in Bomet, Ruto appeared to dismiss Sifuna’s recent criticism of his administration, telling the senator to return to his political “sponsor” and seek guidance on the agenda he should pursue.

“Sifuna rudi kwa sponsor na waganga wako wakupee agenda. Hii Kenya hakuna watu wajinga. You are brainless!”

The remarks drew attention as Ruto stepped up his criticism of opposition figures who have increasingly challenged his government over governance, the economy and the direction of the country.

Sifuna, a prominent critic of the Kenya Kwanza administration, has repeatedly accused the government of abandoning constitutional principles and failing to deliver on some of its promises.

His outspoken criticism has made him one of the administration’s most vocal opponents.

Ruto’s latest remarks, however, suggest that the political contest between the two has moved beyond policy disagreements into increasingly personal exchanges.

For Sifuna and other opposition leaders, the challenge will be to translate their criticism of the government into a coherent political programme capable of convincing voters.
