Political analyst Herman Manyora has reignited political speculation after outlining his latest thoughts on former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s possible plans ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a discussion shared on his YouTube channel, Manyora suggested that Uhuru may be quietly backing former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as a potential presidential challenger to President William Ruto in 2027.
Matiang’i, who earned the nickname “Super CS” during his time in government, has increasingly emerged as one of the figures being considered for the presidency.
Manyora believes Matiang’i’s rising profile could improve his prospects, especially as his name has gained greater visibility amid recent political protests and wider discussions about possible leaders who could take over from Ruto.
The analyst also floated the possibility that Uhuru could help Matiang’i consolidate support in the politically influential Mt Kenya region by having his son, Muhoho Kenyatta, serve as Matiang’i’s running mate.

Even before the Azimio coalition openly supported his political ambitions, there had been growing speculation that he could mount a formidable challenge against Ruto, with former Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe also featuring in earlier discussions.

Manyora further argued that the Mt Kenya contest could become highly competitive if either Deputy President Kithure Kindiki or former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is chosen as Ruto’s running mate. Such a scenario, he said, could transform the region into a key political battleground between rival camps ahead of the 2027 election.
