"I WILL LEAVE" Senator Warns of a Major Fallout if Kalonzo Is Not Picked as Flagbearer

The fragile architecture of the United Opposition alliance is facing its most severe existential threat yet, following a blunt, no-holds-barred warning from Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua that the coalition will implode if Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka is bypassed for the 2027 presidential ticket.

Hitting the campaign trail hard across Mwingi North and Kitui Rural as he drums up support for his own gubernatorial ambitions, Senator Wambua made it crystal clear that the electorate in Ukambani has reached its absolute breaking point and will flatly refuse to back any political arrangement that requires Kalonzo to step aside for another candidate.

Reminding the political class of the heavy loyalties and sacrifices of the past, Wambua pointed out that the former Vice President dutifully shelved his own presidential ambitions to back Raila Odinga in the 2013, 2017, and 2022 general elections in the name of opposition unity.

With the broader coalition now crowded by heavyweights including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former CS Fred Matiang’i, Eugene Wamalwa, Justin Muturi, and Martha Karua, competitive pressures are boiling over.

While Gachagua publicly urges the opposition to slow down its frantic rush to pick a single flagbearer, Wambua’s fiery regional intervention underscores the uncompromising mood in Ukambani.

Signaling that any attempt to sideline Kalonzo once again will trigger a catastrophic voter revolt and shatter the opposition alliance before it even reaches the ballot box.
