“ KTN is Defaming People”, Kaluma Hits Back at Standard Over Explosive Homa Bay Report

Homa Bay Town has once again been thrust into the centre of Kenya’s combustible political theatre after Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma mounted a blistering response to a report by The Standard on the violence witnessed during the Linda Mwananchi rally on August 16.

Kaluma has fiercely challenged the newspaper’s account, accusing media outlets of turning the Homa Bay confrontation into a political propaganda battlefield.

He questioned the credibility of claims linking Governor Gladys Wanga and other local leaders to the alleged mobilisation of youths and distribution of crude weapons, demanding concrete evidence to substantiate the accusations.

The outspoken legislator also questioned reports concerning deaths and injuries during the clashes, insisting that the identities and circumstances surrounding those allegedly killed should be clearly established.

According to his argument, the public deserves verifiable evidence rather than sensational political narratives capable of inflaming an already volatile situation.

Kaluma further disputed suggestions that ODM officials and youth leaders in Homa Bay were involved in orchestrating violence. 

He challenged the reported witnesses to come forward openly and provide credible evidence instead of relying on concealed identities, while also questioning why alternative accounts involving alleged hired groups had not received equal prominence.

The MP also took issue with references to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, sarcastically questioning its description in the report. His response ultimately carried a combative legal undertone, signalling that the matter could escalate from political exchanges to the courtroom.

As the political temperature rises ahead of 2027, Kaluma’s reaction adds another explosive chapter to the increasingly bitter contest over what exactly transpired in Homa Bay on August 16—and who should ultimately bear responsibility.
