Preliminary reports indicate that his body was recovered from a water-filled well in Kitale.
The incident was reported in the Bidii Sub-location, Kwanza Sub-county, Trans Nzoia County, leaving residents and authorities seeking answers over the circumstances surrounding his death.
Police said a man who knew the deceased reported that Wilson Kiprop Rutongot had gone to a well located at Railway Ground.
According to the report made to officers, Rutongot removed his clothes and shoes before entering the water.

Police officers who arrived at the scene found the well, which measured approximately three metres in diameter, filled with water.
His clothes, shoes and other personal belongings had reportedly been left neatly near the well.
With assistance from members of the public, officers managed to retrieve the body from the well.
It was later identified as that of Rutongot, who worked as a casual employee in the Trans Nzoia County Government Department of Environment.
Police said there were no visible physical injuries on the body. Officers also observed water coming from his mouth as they examined the remains at the scene.
Scenes of Crime personnel documented the area as part of investigations before the body was taken to a local mortuary, where it was preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the circumstances and cause of death.
