"No Govt Has Never Killed Kenyans" ODM Governor Says As He Defends Ruto

Kisii Governor Simba Arati has defended President William Ruto against criticism over deaths and alleged abductions reported during his administration, arguing that such incidents have occurred under successive Kenyan governments.

Speaking on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Arati dismissed arguments that Ruto should be denied a second term because Kenyans have lost their lives under his leadership.

The governor, who also serves as an ODM deputy party leader, compared Ruto's administration with that of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, claiming that the previous government was responsible for the deaths of many Kenyans during periods of political unrest.

“They claim that people have died under Ruto's government. Tell me, which government has not killed Kenyans?” Arati posed.

He further argued that Ruto had demonstrated greater tolerance toward his critics than Uhuru, recalling the use of security agencies during the former president's tenure.

“Ruto is abused every day, but he does nothing. If you insulted Uhuru, his then Minister of Interior would send Subarus to your home,” he said.
