Omar, who spoke in Mombasa on Thursday, claimed there were plans to exploit weaknesses in the electoral system by using the identities and personal details of deceased Kenyans to facilitate fraudulent voting.
The UDA official alleged that the scheme could involve obtaining identification information belonging to deceased voters and using it to manipulate the voting process through biometric voter registration and identification systems.
Omar further suggested that such a strategy would be aimed at helping Ruto secure a second term while strengthening the bargaining position of the president’s political allies in the next administration.
He said electoral support would be crucial for communities seeking a greater share of government positions, development projects and other opportunities after the 2027 election.
The remarks have raised concerns over the integrity of the next General Election, particularly the security of voter identification details and the accuracy of the voters’ register.
However, Omar did not provide evidence to substantiate the alleged plot or identify individuals he claimed were behind it.
His comments come amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 polls, with rival parties and political formations positioning themselves for a highly contested election.
Omar is also preparing for another attempt at the Mombasa gubernatorial seat, where he is expected to face several contenders from different political camps.
The UDA Secretary General said his team was ready to compete for the governor’s position and other elective seats across Mombasa County.
