In a message shared on his official X account, Kuria said importers from the traders’ community had taken to the streets two weeks earlier to oppose an increase in customs duty from KSh 2.5 million to KSh 3 million.
“Dear my fellow Mt. Kenya political leaders. We have a problem in our hands,” Kuria said.

He explained that the traders wanted the duty maintained at KSh 2.5 million, saying their concerns had reached President William Ruto.
According to Kuria, the President not only gave the traders an audience at State House but also agreed to their request.
“President Ruto not only gave the traders an audience at State House. President Ruto agreed to their request,” he stated.

Kuria further claimed that Ruto went beyond the traders’ proposed KSh 2 million per well per project, although the former CS did not explain the revised arrangement in detail.
The message comes as Kuria calls on Mt Kenya leaders to take note of the concerns raised by traders and the President’s response to their demands.
He ended his post with the words, “Today I pledged certificate per item. Assist,” leaving the final part of his message unclear.
